Charlottesville Residents Attend National Climate Change Rally

February 17, 2013

Tens of thousands of protesters marched through Washington, DC, Sunday, including more than 100 people from Charlottesville, with a message of moving forward on climate.

Organizers of the "Forward on Climate" rally, which marched from the Washington Monument to the White House, say their mission is to urge President Barack Obama and Congress to take action on climate change and reject the Keystone XL Oil pipeline.

Demonstrators held signs that read "Save the Planet" and "Forward Clean Energy." Two busloads of people left Charlottesville on Sunday morning to attend the rally.

"If people are going to live comfortably on this planet 100 years from now, we have to bring down the CO2 levels, and in order to do that, we have to change the way we live on this planet," said John Cruickshank, chapter chair of the Virginia Sierra Club.

The rally was organized by the national Sierra Club and the website 350.org.
