The $73 million 2014-2015 budget is about a 4% increase from last year.

Most of that increase is based on state mandates that the school board has no control over.

The school board is requesting approximately $45 million from the Charlottesville City Council.

"It's been a long process. Several months of public input. We received a lot of public input. That input made a difference. It was a tough budget year. We didn't get everything that we wanted but we believe that it's fair," said Juandiego Wade, School Board Chair.

Some changes this year for the school board though, instead of having a coordinator focus on certain schools, a coach will now be assigned to each school.

The school board hopes this new model will place resources closer to the source benefiting the students and the community.
