Charlottesville Sheriff Seeks Four More Years

March 5, 2013

Charlottesville sheriff James Brown wants another four years on the job to keep the city's courts safe.

The 42-year-old Charlottesville native made the announcement Tuesday afternoon outside Charlottesville Circuit Court. He was first elected to the office in 2009. He oversees eight full-time and two part-time deputies.

In his first term, Brown said he's helped to improve courthouse security and save money by introducing hybrid cars to the fleet.

"There's things we're still working on to improve courthouse security and to improve the various functions that we have as an office," Brown said. "I think we've been doing a really good job with what we've been doing, and I'd like to continue with that."

Brown said if re-elected, he wants to continue his work to get the sheriff's office formally accredited.

"I grew up with a father who was sharing his time with other kids trying to help them get on the right path as well, so it's one of those things where my family's always been involved in public service," Brown said.

As of now, the Democrat is running unopposed.
