Charlottesville Ten Miler Presents Check to Learning Center

July 8, 2014

The Barrett Early Learning Center (BELC) in Charlottesville is the recipient of a big check.

Tuesday morning, a check for $65,000 was given to the center on behalf of the 2014 Charlottesville Ten Miler.

BELC was in danger of closing last summer, but now the money will help the facility continue to provide educational opportunities for young kids.

"It's a part of Charlottesville history. Next year it will be its 80th year. It serves this community. It serves the Ridge Street community and the outer lining areas. It's just one of those special things. The house is one hundred years old,” says Maria Bell, board member for BELC. “It's a special special piece that we didn't want to just have disappear from Charlottesville's history."

The Barrett Early Learning Center is located on Ridge Street in Charlottesville.
