Charlottesville Woman Creates Obama Shrine in Living Room

Though some locals won't be able to attend President Barack Obama's ceremonial swearing-in on Monday, at least one Charlottesville woman doesn't plan on missing out.

Geneva Johnson has been chronicling the president's journey since 2008, using her living room as a journal.

Johnson's living room is filled wall-to-wall with memorabilia of the president, from T-shirts to magazine covers. Johnson said it all started with one table.

"This was the first starting," she said, referencing the table. "I first thought that I should surround him with angels and protect him."

She started to follow the then-2008 presidential candidate, chronicling his journey to the White House. That's when she took a liking to the former Illinois senator.

From all over the East Coast, from South Carolina to New Jersey, friends and family members sent Johnson magazine clippings, written prayers and other White House and Obama decorations.

While many people have added to her collection, she said she puts together her own scrapbooks.

"I did everything and not only for President Obama," she said, "[but also] for myself because I've heard with seniors, if you don't use it, you'll lose it."

Johnson doesn't plan to miss a beat, hoping to collect more memorabilia. But she does have one hope.

"I hope before it's all done with that he will see this room himself," she said.

Johnson said she plans to watch the inauguration at a friend's house since her television is covered with Obama memorabilia.
