The Charlottesville School Board met Thursday for the first time since Dawn Reddick's death.

School board member Llezelle Dugger cried as she read an emotional note at the start of the meeting, remembering Reddick as a committed teacher who gave her life to save a child.

"Dawn will be missed by all of us. Please join us in observing a moment of silence in memory of our teacher Dawn Reddick."

Reddick will be laid to rest Sunday in Goochland County and School board member Guian McKee will be there to represent the board.

"My support for the community, for the teachers, for all the families that are affected by Dawn's loss and for her family as well and also you know that we're going to rally as a community and we'll work through this."
