Amtrak says it had nearly 1.5 million passenger boardings and departures at Virginia stations last fiscal year.
Amtrak released a state-by-state list of its top stations Thursday.
Leading the way in Virginia was the Staples Mill Road station in Richmond with nearly 346,000 boardings and departures. It was followed by the auto train station in Lorton with 265,000. The Alexandria station was third at 170,000, followed by the Newport News station at 136,000 and the Charlottesville station at about 128,000.
Amtrak says it had a record 31.2 million passengers nationwide over the past fiscal year.
