Chesterfield police are searching for the person who fired a shot that killed a young boy at a fireworks display Thursday night.
Police say 7-year-old Brendon Mackey was walking with his father in the parking lot of a restaurant around 9:00 PM last night, when he was hit in the head by a stray bullet.
The two of them were there to watch nearby fireworks.
The boy died Friday morning.
Police are seeking the public's help in finding the person who fired the shot.
"Anybody who is a parent can certainly empathize with this family, and that's why we just want to reach out to the public, to appeal to anybody and everybody who may have any information on this at all, to put themselves in the family's shoes, and think about how terrible it is that they're going through this tragedy, and reach out to us so that we can help them," says Chesterfield Police Capt. Brad Badgerow.
Police do not think the shot was fired intentionally, and say the bullet likely came from a gun fired off the premises.
