Staff unity never tasted so good.
A number of departments inside the Albemarle County Office Building on Fifth Street hosted a chili cook-off.
In all, 19 county employees submitted samples in an event that encouraged staff unity and bonding.
The departments in the Fifth Street office don't often do things together, so this was an attempt to change that.
Employees tasted it all from white chicken chili to vegetarian options, ranging from traditional types to the more creative.
"People love to eat and love to eat chili," said Shelly Catterton, one of the organizers who works for the county's Department of Social Services. "Everyone's got their favorite recipe and thinks that they're the winner. So it's just some healthy competition."
A number of participants from the social services departments took home many of the top prizes.
Organizers said they hope to make it an annual event.
