RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - It's spring cleaning day at 16 Civil War sites in Virginia.

The Civil War Trust has rounded up volunteers for Saturday's work day at Appomattox Court House, Brandy Station, Petersburg National Battlefield, Richmond National Battlefield and a dozen other locations throughout the state.

Last year, nearly 8,000 volunteers donated more than 36,000 hours at 105 historic sites around the nation. The trust said the 18th edition of Park Day will include approximately 100 historic sites in 26 states. The nationwide event is underwritten by a grant from History, the cable channel that takes a reality TV approach to retelling historical events.

Volunteers during Park Day rake leaves, paint signs, haul trash and other chores.

Besides the previously mentioned sites, volunteers will also gather in Newport News, Leesburg, Culpeper and Fredericksburg.
