Albemarle County Board of Supervisor Chris Dumler has issued a statement about his arrest on sodomy charges. The representative from the Scottsville district says he will plead not guilty and will not resign from the board.
This is the first comment from Dumler since his arrest on October 18. He is accused of forcible sodomy, which is a felony. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for December.
Below is the full statement from Dumler:
"As a practicing attorney and a member of the local bar, I have tremendous respect for our justice system and for the prosecutors and court systems. I intend to plead not guilty to the charge against me and will offer a vigorous defense, and will allow the legal process to work. I have neither requested nor been given special treatment by the officers of the court, city or county officials or law enforcement.
I trust there will be a swift and favorable resolution to this charge, but until then, I will recuse myself from any votes that pose a conflict of interest. I will not resign from the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors and appreciate the continued support of my colleagues and constituents."
