An event thanked local firefighters and promoted fire safety, all while getting a slice of pizza.
Cici's Pizza in Charlottesville held its first Firefighter Appreciation Day. Area firefighters could eat a free meal all day Monday.
The Charlottesville Fire Department also signed up people for its smoke detector program and talked to pizza patrons about fire safety.
Kim Ryan, who does marketing for Cici's, said the Charlottesville Cici's is interested in doing events later for local police and EMT's later this summer, all to thank the community.
"We just love the involvement with anything that goes on here in Charlottesville. And, of course, a part of our community is our firefighters, so we wanted to take this opportunity to thank them," said Kim Ryan, Cici's Marketing.
In the smoke detector program, firefighters will come to your home and install a smoke detector for free for Charlottesville residents. If you'd like sign up for the program, call the Charlottesville Fire Department's Neighborhood Safety Hotline to schedule your installation at 434-970-3245.
