Charlottesville City Council agreed to a plan to replace some of the parking spaces lost at Beer Run restaurant on Monday night.

The city had wanted to expand the sidewalk on Meade Avenue in front of the restaurant, which would take up the space used for customer parking.

Another construction project that would hurt parking: VDOT had wanted to build a trail in the area at the same time.

Councilors agreed to a plan that delays trail construction so the projects won't overlap, widens Water street to create more spots, and creates spots on Meade, to replace 25 parking spaces.

"In the long run it's going to create a great place. You're gonna have great businesses that are going to thrive because of the trail, there's going to be more people living there. But the lesson that we've learned -- at least the lesson that I hope we've learned -- is that we look ahead next time. We anticipate what might be lost before we do something, like parking spaces," said councilor Kathy Galvin.

Originally on council's agenda Monday night was a request for almost 140 thousand dollars from the school board. The request was taken off the agenda.

Charlottesville School Board Chairman Juan Diego Wade said the board no longer needs needs the extra money.
