On Wednesday the City hosted an open meeting at the Jefferson School City Center to discuss what to do with the Strategic Investment Area. That area is between Garrett Street and Elliot Avenue, near the Frank Ix building.
The Cunningham Quill Architecture Firm presented members of city council and members of the community with their findings after 7 months of research and community input meetings to figure out what people wanted to see there.
Lee Quill, of Cunningham Quill Architecture, says that they found that people want, "New housing, new public infrastructure, private sector investment. Really creating a new district in the city that will be very desirable for people to live, work and play."
Plans for the area have included public space where the old Frank Ix and Sons factory once stood, and a park that would run between Garrett Street and Elliott Avenue.
