City of Promise Benefits From UVA Greek Carnival

November 3, 2013

The University of Virginia's fraternities and sororities ended their Greek weekend with a carnival that benefited children.

The free event brought people out to UVA grounds for an afternoon of fun. Sororities and fraternities set up booths with different activities for families, including a bounce house.

All of the proceeds that were collected will go to the City of Promise, an educational program that strives to help kids in low income communities.

Natalie Powers, a Fourth Year at UVA, was there helping out with some of the activities.

"They run fully off of donations so we are really hoping to help with their fundraising efforts," she said. "They really just help out all of the kids in the community, give them after school care, educational programs for adults and access to some of the resources they don't have at home."

Last year the Greek carnival attracted more than 200 people who came out to participate, as well as those helping out the cause, and organizers this year hoped to exceed that.
