CBS19 has learned that the City of Charlottesville has signed an agreement to begin construction on the Meadow Creek Parkway, known as McIntire Road extended.

City Manager Maurice Jones signed the Memorandum of Agreement on April 15 between the Army Corp of Engineers, the Virginia Department of Transportation, The Virginia State Historic Preservation Officer, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation and the City of Charlottesville.

The 48-page document shows the terms that City Manager Jones has agreed to including an integrated landscape plan, a maximum speed limit of 35 miles per hour, the plan requires VDOT to provide photographic documentation and a written history of McIntire Park and the McIntire Golf Course.

Jones' signature is the last before a construction permit can be issued by the Army Corp of Engineers. The Corp has been a proponent of building the Parkway, so granting a construction permit is likely.

CBS19 is also hearing tentative construction plans could begin in the next 60 days.

Wouldn't it be safer at 15 mph and with speed bumps throughout?

I was thinking good news when I heard about this earlier. But then I thought there may still be some opportunities for those wanting to slow this down again. Anyone know if the approval is everything, including the interchange, or are we going from a road to nowhere to a longer road to nowhere?

Hold on there, just a minute. I'm going to file suite to stop this because I have a hang nail.
