Clean Up Continues on Derailed Coal Train

July 19, 2013

Cleanup continues on a big train derailment in southern Albemarle County.

Officials with CSX say 31 coal cars from the train derailed along the James River near Warren Ferry Road. Twelve of those train cars overturned, spilling around a thousand tons of coal.

The tracks are expected to be closed until at least Saturday afternoon, as crews continue to clean up the coal and examine possible damage to the rails.

It is unknown at this time what caused the train to jump the tracks
