A committee appointed by the Albemarle County School Board met Tuesday night for a redistricting meeting that could have an impact on students beginning in the 2013-2014 school year.
Dozens showed up to Murray Elementary to hear the discussion of the Western Feeder Pattern Redistricting Committee on Tuesday night. The volunteer board is focusing on what to do with Meriwhether Lewis Elementary School.
The school is quickly getting to be over capacity, and the school board has instructed the committee to recommend some solutions.
"Primarily, whether we should maintain a holding pattern for the school, meaning do not redistrict students in the near term and hold fast, or should we move students to another school or two schools in the feeder pattern," said Matthew Haas, an assistant superintendent with Albemarle County schools.
The committee will hold a public comment on the topic on Dec. 11. The school board will make a final decision in March.
