A local high school student is going to get a $30,000 scholarship from the Emily Couric Leadership Forum.
Currently, a committee is working to choose a winner.
One girl is nominated from each local high school. The winner will be presented during a fundraiser dinner on March 18 at the Omni Hotel.
Spokeswoman Kara Cox says the past winners have come from different background.
"They've been very varied, actually, in what they're going to do. We've had a recent winner who was interested in issues in Africa. We've had winners, we had a recent winner who wanted to become a doctor in Doctors Without Borders."
Former Senator Olympia Snow, from Maine, will be the keynote speaker at the luncheon.
