Charlottesville Commonwealth's Attorney Dave Chapman kicked off his re-election campaign on Monday.
The 59 year-old Democrat wants a sixth term as the city's top prosecutor.
He told a crowd at CitySpace that he thrives on trial work, and that he is good at what he goes.
Chapman says there are a number of projects the office is working on and that he'd like to see them through.
"If people lack confidence in the criminal justice system, they then lack trust in the outcomes," Chapman said. "We must ensure that we have the confidence and trust of everyone in the community."
Chapman first began serving as commonwealth's attorney in 1994. He is now running in the Democratic primary against opponent Steve Deaton.
