Commonwealth's Attorney Dave Chapman officially kicked off his re-election campaign on Thursday at the home of Clerk of Circuit Court Llezelle Dugger.
Chapman has run the local Commonwealth's Attorney's Office and says that over that time, it has become one of the most respected offices in Virginia. He says that is because they prosecute cases the right way.
"We don't have an interest in finding people guilty necessarily of the most severe charge that they could be found guilty." says Chapman. "What we are interested in is making sure that the case is decided on the right issues and hearing the right evidence and reflects the best we can do at achieving justice in court."
Chapman will be running against former Commonwealth's Attorney Steve Deaton in his first contested re-election since he took office.
