RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - One of the police officers who apprehended a man charged in a Chesterfield County law office shooting says the suspect asked the officer to kill him.
Virginia Capitol Police Officer Jamie Cosby testified on the first day of Mark M. Lowe's attempted murder trial Friday. Lowe is accused of trying to kill his ex-wife's lawyer, who escaped injury.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that Cosby testified that he was driving by the Barnes & Diehl law offices in June 2012 when he saw people fleeing. He stopped and encountered Lowe outside the building with a rifle. He testified that Lowe told him, "Do me a favor, buddy, kill me right now."
Cosby didn't shoot. He and a Chesterfield officer managed to disarm and apprehend the suspect.
The trial resumes Monday.
