Crozet residents, Connie and D.B. Sandridge are using their electric lantern to help guide them through their home after losing power.
They are emptying perishable food items out of their refrigerator and into coolers filled with ice.
"We went up to Richmond today and we bought ice on the way home. We had seen on Facebook that the lights had gone out in some places, we wanted to be prepared for that," said Connie.
This is the third time this year the couple had to endure the dark but they say they're ready.
"It's kind of scary to see the wind, especially after we went through the derecho. Its a little eerie hearing the wind and not knowing what's going on outside," said Connie.
Connie said it will be hard to sleep while the power is out and the wind continues to blow
