Cub Scouts from the Monticello District are participating in their annual Day Camp this week.
Nearly 200 scouts and their siblings were out at Chris Greene Lake in Albemarle Co. this week, learning skills like fishing, shooting and archery.
This year they are learning about the Totem Trail, which focuses on Native Americans and the contributions they made in nature and Virginia.
"The most important thing that we try to do is instill the ideas of scouting into the boys with the activities that we do," says camp director Tracey Stakem. "Cooperation, being good leaders, being good friends, good buddies to their peers and having them do new things that might not be easy, but persevering and trying to do their best."
This is a week-long event and scouts range from 2nd to 5th graders.
