A 48-year-old Culpeper woman is charged with burglarizing several businesses.
Joanna Lee Hawkins faces four counts of burglary, some of which were linked to her through forensic evidence collected at various crime scenes.
Hawkins is charged with the Dec. 13, 2013, burglary of Culpeper Cleaners in the 700 block of North Main Street.
In addition, Hawkins faces charges involving the January burglaries of three Meadowbrook Shopping Center businesses. She stands charged with burglaries at Z’s Nu Look and Deema’s Restaurant, both of which were reported to police Jan. 14. Hawkins also is accused of a breaking into the Culpeper Regional Hospital Thrift Store, which was reported to police on Jan. 20.
Police located Hawkins while canvassing the area of the shopping center following the burglary of the thrift shop. When police found her, she had a laceration to an arm, which required treatment at the UVa. Medical Center in Charlottesville.
At all four burglaries, police detectives recovered physical evidence and submitted it to the state crime lab for analysis.
Lab results linked two of the burglaries to Hawkins. Detectives are waiting on the lab analysis of the evidence in the other break-ins.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and that more charges are possible.
