Charlottesville's July Restaurant Week kicks off Monday. Nearly 30 restaurants are offering special three-course menus at three fixed prices -- $16, $26 and $36.
"I kind of think of it like being on the catwalk because you can show what you got," said Horse & Hound Gastropub owner and chef Luther Fedora. "You can show things you don't normally do and you can see what works and what doesn't work. It's fun. It's innovative."
Fedora, who has participated in previous Restaurant Weeks, says the event gives the gastropub a chance to switch up its menu and offer its regular customers something fresh.
It also brings new faces in for a meal.
"It's a chance to bring in people we don't normally have as regular clientele. It's a chance for them to check us out at a really phenomenal price point and a chance to get a really amazing deal with really amazing food and benefit the local community as well," said Fedora.
A dollar from each meal served is going to an organization that serves local kids -- the Boys & Girls Club of Central Virginia.
"We got a great phone call about three weeks ago that said you have been chosen, and it was a big celebration in the office and all across the clubs when we found out," said James Pierce, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Central Virginia. "It feels great to have that vote of confidence from local business owners and the committee and the people who are going to be coming out and supporting us."
The Boys & Girls Club offers kids ages six to 18 a positive and safe place to go after school and during the summer.
"One of the great things we do is we have cooking programs at the clubs," said Pierce. "So, thematically, it fits in really well with Restaurant Week."
