UPDATE
July 9, 2012

No charges will be filed against David Highfield, the man who survived an attempted suicide pact at the Red Roof Inn in January.

An autopsy report shows Highfield's companion Laura Daly had a high concentration of Doxylamine, a substance found in an over-the-counter sleeping pill.

According to a statement released by the commonwealth's attorney, Daly left a three page suicide note saying they intended to jointly end their lives so they could "be hand in hand in Heaven."

UPDATE

Charlottesville Police Lt. Ronnie Roberts tells CBS19 that investigators are still trying to determine how a woman whose body was found in a hotel room last week died.

Lt. Roberts is meeting with the investigators Monday and says they are still working to tie together several loose ends. He did say the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office is involved in the case.

As for the individuals found in the Red Roof Inn hotel room, Lt. Roberts says they are still awaiting a cause of death for 46-year-old Laura Daly. He says David Highfield, who at last report was unconscious in intensive care, is now in stable condition.

Charlottesville Police have identified the individuals found in a hotel room at the Red Roof Inn on West Main Street next to Jimmy John's and Mellow Mushroom.

Lt. Ronnie Roberts says 46-year-old Laura Daly, of Charlottesville, was found dead in the room. Her body is being taken to the medical examiner's office in Richmond for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Roberts says 63-year-old David Highfield, also of Charlottesville, remains unconscious in the Intensive-Care Unit at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Both individuals were arrested last month in Albemarle County, Highfield for attempting to defraud a hotel after a 15-day stay and Daly for obstruction of justice.

The two were discovered around 1 p.m. Sunday by hotel maintenance staffers who found them lying unconscious on the floor of a hotel room on the eighth floor.

"The particular individuals would have been checking out," Lt. Roberts said. "Since there was no one to check out, no one had checked out. The cleaning crew needing to get in to do its particular duties, maintenance checked in and that's when the found the bodies and contacted 911."

A forensics team and detectives investigated the scene late into Sunday night. The investigation into what happened continues. Detectives are working with the staff at the UVa Medical Center to find out more.
