DANVILLE, Virginia (AP) — A World War II cannon is being restored by inmates at the Danville Adult Detention Center.
Detention center director Frank Mardavich expects the project to be completed by Veteran's Day.
Mardavich tells the Danville Register & Bee that an inmate crew has been stripping several layers of paint from the Howitzer. Once the paint is removed, a rust inhibitor will be applied and the cannon will be repainted.
He says he hopes the community also will be participate in the restoration.
