Even pets need to make some new friends, and one local facility is helping in that process.

Pampered Pets hosted an open house Saturday morning to show off its new day camp facility. The camp allows dogs to mingle with other canines in a controlled environment with trained counselors.

The camp is geared toward owners who don't have the time to give their dogs the exercise and mental stimulation they need.

"Dogs that have adequate social and mental activity are more content, less likely to have behavior problems in the home," said Dawn Ryan, the day camp's director. "And they're very social creatures so it's very important for them to have that outlet."

The Charlottesville Fire Department was also on hand to show off Quaker, the department's arson dog. Quaker is one of just 68 in the country trained by federal ATF agents.

In the demonstration, Quaker successfull sniffed out the locations of lighter fluid strategically placed throughout the day camp facility.
