New apartments geared to students are set to open on West Main Street in ten days.
But if you take a look, they are still under construction.
The Flats at West Village are the first of several massive apartment buildings set to open on that stretch of west main. It has 622 rooms and 8 stories. It has been under construction for months with a tight schedule.
In order to catch the student crowd they have aimed for, they had to be open before school starts and in time for them to settle in before the first day of class.
Apparently have a backup plan.
We spoke to students that planned on moving in the 15th but have been told if the building is not ready, they will be put up in hotels.
Christian Porter has lived on grounds for two years.
But this year he decided to branch out and find an apartment.
"We just decided that would be the best option for us."
Porter says his parents came up recently to check them out.
"We went to the leasing office and then my mom wanted to check about if it was still on. She doesn’t think it will be ready in time, we made a bet about it."
But for Porter, the idea of a hotel isn't that upsetting.
"I wouldn’t mind it. It wouldn’t be too bad. I just hope that it will be done relatively soon to the date because that’s what they made everyone believe."
We spoke to a leasing agent that said they still anticipate being done on schedule with those rooms.
