There have been eleven traffic-related deaths this year in Albemarle County.
That's according to spokeswoman Carter Johnson.
"We've had ten fatal crashes in albemarle county with eleven fatalities, and that does include one fatal crash that was investigated by Virginia State Police."
That puts the county close to the numbers from last year. But Johnson says compared to 2011, there has been a significant drop.
"There was a big reduction from 2011 to 2012 in fatal crashes. In 2011 we had 21 fatal crashes and then in 2012 there were 12, so this year is more on par with 2012."
She says County Police have worked hard this year to keep that number to a minimum with several initiatives.
"There is a big focus on 2012 initiatives. It's a big focus for the department. We focused on enforcement, education, focusing a lot of some of these rural roads where these crashes tend to take place. especially the last month or so with a lot of parties and celebrations and drinking and driving. really tried to get the message out about buckling up, wearing your seat belt...make sure you have a safe ride home and have a sober driver."
