A Democratic party volunteer was arrested by Charlottesville police Monday, for allegedly violating a protective order against former City Council candidate James Halfaday. The arrest comes after a string of allegations made by Halfaday over the course of his campaign.

According to court documents, Nina Gregory was arrested for sending blank text messages to Halfaday. The blank text message was in violation of an emergency protective order that Halfaday was granted on August 25.

In his statement to police, Halfaday said Gregory often sent him blank text messages and that he fears for his life because of her.

Gregory volunteered briefly for current City Council candidate Kathy Galvin. In an email to CBS19, Galvin said "[Gregory] was a volunteer in the final week of the campaign...all I can say is how very surprised I was to learn that Mr. Halfaday had gotten a restraining order against Nina Gregory."

Halfaday has met opposition throughout his campaign for City Council. The openly gay Democrat has said he's gotten threats from members of his own political party, including Galvin.

While that claim was debunked, Halfaday says he has met opposition because of his sexual orientation.
