Local Democrats have decided to hold a firehouse election to determine who will represent the party for Charlottesville Treasurer seat.
The decision was made during the party's committee meeting Thursday night.
Party leaders say the decision to do a firehouse election isn't new.
Jim Nix of the Charlottesville Democratic Party states, "Our object here is to continue the progress toward a more democratic process for nominating our candidates than a closed caucus we used in former years."
Jason Vandever currently serves as the city's Chief Deputy Treasurer. He took over the spot after Jennifer Brown retired.
Vandever plans to run in the firehouse election, and hopefully to run in the city's special election in April.
