A small office off East Market Street is where 49-year-old David Watkins works as CEO of Watkins Computer Services. It's also where he was arrested Wednesday on forcible sodomy charges.
According to the arrest warrant, Watkins is charged with sodomizing a child under the age of 13. The victim, is a former Boy Scout in the troop Watkins founded and acted as group leader of until 2008. Court documents show the abuse happened in 2005 but the victim, who is now an adult, waited several years before coming forward.
Albemarle County police say they have reason to believe their could be other victims. Following Wednesday's press conference announcing Watkin's arrest, investigators say they are following up on several new leads.
"We have received multiple phone calls on the tip line and now we're looking into those calls and the information provided," said Carter Johnson, the public information officer for Albemarle County police department.
Watkins is being held at the Charlottesville Albemarle Regional Jail. He appeared in front of a judge via video conference briefly on Thursday. A court appointed attorney for Watkins asked for a bond review to be held Monday to give her more time to review the case. Prosecutors for the commonwealth are asking for Watkins to be held without bond. The judge granted the request and a bond review is scheduled for Monday at 9:00am in the Albemarle County Juvenile and Domestic Court.
Meanwhile, investigators say they will continue to follow up with tips and have designated a tip line to this case.
"We do want people to continue to call in if they have any information," said Johnson.
The tip line number is 434-972-4045.
