First Night Virginia is only hours away. Downtown Mall businesses are preparing for large crowds of people.
Thousands are expected to attend the annual New Year’s Eve festivities on the mall. This year, some University of Virginia Cavalier fans are expected to join.
John Meiklejohn is a chef at Positively 4th Street on the Downtown Mall. He said, "We definitely are expecting a big crowd tomorrow night both with the football game and First Night."
The nTelos Wireless Pavilion will show the Chick-fil-A Bowl. Businesses plan to change their menus for the football crowd.
"We're running some wings tomorrow night, which we have never done before," said Meiklejohn.
Charity Donnelly is the general manager at Blue Light Grill. She said: "We've got our wide-screen TV’s. We will have the game on the TV’s, and we'll watch the ball drop."
“Granny,” as she goes by, has worked at Chaps Ice Cream for 13 years. She says she is ready for the crowd. "We do a big container of hot chocolate. We have hot coffee, and I believe we'll have hot apple cider," said “Granny.”
These are just some of the options available to ring in 2012.
