Helen Dragas is responding to a petition that is asking for her to be removed from the UVa Board of Visitors.
Dragas told the Times-Dispatch that she is not looking back at her efforts last Summer to force UVa President Teresa Sullivan out of her job.
She wants to keep her position on the board, because she says she understands what UVa needs.
Several hundred petitioners disagree with that, though.
The petition was launched on Tuesday, and asks Governor McDonnell and the General Assembly to not confirm Dragas to her post at their session in January. There are currently more than 1,200 supporters signed to the petition.
Dragas responds with saying, "Obviously it's personally distressing. It's not a popularity contest, and sometimes it calls for thick skin."
But the petition is just one of the recent blows against Dragas.
Last week UVa was put "on warning" by an accreditation agency, and they said that warning was because of Dragas' actions.
Dragas doesn't see it as a huge deal.
"Of course I'm disappointed, but warning is the lowest level of SACS oversight."
SACS is the name of the accreditation agency.
Now, according to the Times-Dispatch, Governor McDonnell agrees with Dragas in downplaying the warning.
However, others like Delegate Steve Landes says they are convinced to not confirm Dragas.
