ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - A driver has been sentenced to 15 years and six months in prison for causing a fiery accident on Interstate 581 that killed two people last June.
Media outlets report 35-year-old Timothy Darrell Wellons was sentenced Monday in Roanoke Circuit Court.
According to police, Wellons lost control of his car and sideswiped a tractor-trailer, which went across a median into another tractor-trailer. Both trucks exploded and their drivers were killed. Two other vehicles also wrecked and were destroyed by fire.
Wellons pleaded no contest in September to two counts of aggravated involuntary manslaughter and one count each of drunken driving and assault and battery.
