Albemarle County Supervisor Chris Dumler will start serving his 30-day jail sentence on Friday, but it won't be 30 days straight.
Dumler will be a weekend inmate, which allows him to go home during the week. While at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail, he will be separated from the general population.
Jail officials say weekend inmates are not uncommon. They currently have about 30 of them at the jail. It is typically an option for people convicted of misdemeanors who hold down a job during the week.
Jail officials say Dumler is not getting special treatment because of his position on the board.
"We don't know who the person is or what they do when they apply for weekends at the jail," said Martin Kumer, the deputy superintendent. "We simply look at the sentence you were granted, the permission you were granted to serve your time on weekends, and your ability to pay and abide by the rules and regulations."
In January, Dumler pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of sexual battery.
