UPDATE 4:40 PM January 7, 2013
Fire Chief Charles L. Werner says the fire at Plow & Hearth was accidental.
An electrical wire that was either under or near storage of Fatwood, a resin-rich wood kindling that was sold in the store, caused the blaze.
The fire rapidly consumed the Fatwood, creating extreme heat and large volumes of black smoke that spread through the store.
Werner says this explains the speed and intensity of the fire that expanded exponentially within minutes of its detection.
