An escaped bull was shot dead Sunday morning on the streets of Harrisonburg.

It happened along Collicello Street. Police say the bull apparently escaped overnight from Shenandoah Valley Livestock Sales on Edom Road.

Police say neighbors called about seeing the bull walking the streets. Livestock owners told police the bull was an aggressive animal.

It is unclear how the bull escaped.

I talked to an officer involved and the bull WAS aggressive- he charged them and was out of control. They could not corral or contain him. This was far better than the bull running suddenly onto Rt 42 and causing a pileup and potential deaths. It was a judgement call- a good one. That bull could have really hurt someone.

Why didn't they just tranquilize the bull, instead of killing it? Charlottesville kills the bears running around their previous homestead!
