The Virginia Department of Transportation is warning drivers that Route 15 at Zion Crossroads will be closed to traffic for brief periods overnight Thursday and early Friday morning. The closures will also affect traffic on the exit ramps from I-64.
Crews will be installing overhead signs as part of the diverging diamond interchange project.
VDOT reports the work will begin at 10 pm on Thursday night. The road will be narrowed to one lane while a crane is positioned to move the overhead sign structure into position. Then traffic will be stopped at that location while the sign is lifted into place and bolted onto the upright posts. Once the sign is secure the road will reopen to traffic.
The process will be repeated four times to install the signs above Route 15 north and southbound and on the east and westbound exit ramps from I-64.
VDOT says the closures are expected to last approximately 15 minutes. The work should be completed by 4 a.m. Friday.
