A familial DNA search has led to an arrest in Virginia.
An official with the Virginia Department of Forensic Science says several cases linked by DNA appeared to be the work of one person. A familial DNA search found a possible relative of the suspect in those cases.
The suspect was arrested following a police investigation and additional DNA testing.
Law enforcement has declined to provide further details on the case.
Familial searches use relatives' genetic material to track suspects in violent crimes who have left DNA at a crime scene but their DNA isn't in any database.
