Families Beat the Heat at Local Beaches

May 26, 2014

Instead of heading out of town for the holiday weekend, some families opted to stay in town.

Plenty of people hit local beaches to soak up the sun. Memorial Day weekend is seen as the unofficial kick off to the summer season.

Walnut Creek, Mint Springs and Chris Greene Lake opened to the public on Saturday and folks headed out to beat the heat and take advantage of them today.

One mom says she's didn't feel like dealing with the crowds on the roads so they stayed in town and headed to Walnut Creek.

"We decided to come to the beach and play in the water,” said Candace Buchanan. “My little girl, who is three, has been dying to build a sand castle so we are very excited to do that."

Many brought their families for a cook out while kids splashed around in the water.
