VINTON, Va. (AP) - Residents are calling for safety improvements on a stretch of Route 24 in Bedford County following two recent wrecks that killed three teenagers.
WDBJ-TV reports that parents and friends of the victims are conducting a petition drive to improve the road. They are seeking installation of a light on the road, fewer access points, guard rails, a lower speed limit and clearing of debris to remove blind spots.
Group members plan to present the petition to the Virginia Department of Transportation and the governor.
Police and VDOT say the road is safe.
