The father of a University of Virginia student killed during a study abroad trip last year is suing over her death.
Twenty-two-year-old Casey Schulman of Falls Church was killed in December during a visit to the Caribbean island of Dominica. She died after being struck by a dive boat's propeller. Police have charged the captain of the boat.
Schulman and more than 50 other students visited the island as part of a Semester at Sea program, which is sponsored by UVa.
The suit was filed in federal court in Miami by her father, David Schulman.
The suit alleges negligence by the UVa program and others, seeking funeral expenses and compensatory damages.
