Federal Charges Filded Against Baldi

Former Charlottesville businessman James Kirk Baldi is facing new federal charges of tax evasion.

Baldi is currently serving a little more than three years in state prison.

Last year he pleaded guilty to embezzling from businesses in Charlottesville and Albemarle County. In July 2013, Baldi pled guilty to embezzling more than $20,000 from the Cafe Cubano restaurant. The month before, he pleaded guilty to embezzling an undisclosed amount of money from WK Foods and Proffitt Management.

Baldi had done the accounting and payroll for several area businesses in addition to owning the former Belmont restaurant, Bel Rio

Baldi spent more than 2 years on the run until his arrest in San Francisco.
