Hard work and a green thumb have paid off for independent city council candidate Bob Fenwick.

The statewide nonprofit group Preservation Virginia has awarded Fenwick its annual Preservation Award. The award recognizing his organizing efforts to clear the Rock Hill Gardens on the property of MACAA, the Monticello Area Community Action Agency.

The gardens were built in the 1930s and have been the victim of neglect in recent years.

Preservation Virginia said MACAA, under Fenwick's direction, has made substantial progress in renewing the cultural landscape of the gardens.

Wonderful job, Mr. Fenwick. I enjoy the new view each time I pass the area on 250 E. I hope all the other volunteers were recognized in some small way. I understand that many of them were UVA students.
