Charlottesville City Council candidate Bob Fenwick outlined an aggressive plan for economic growth in the area in a press conference Thursday. Standing under the Belmont Bridge, which Fenwick noted was due for renovation, the independent candidate announced his intention to create 100 jobs in 100 days.
"We don't have to sit and wait for improvements to occur…we can act now," he said.
Fenwick unveiled a six-point agenda for improvement, which included a focus on existing businesses, more leeway for small local businesses, extensive infrastructural maintenance, and a more standardized appraisal process for properties of all kinds.
"I could have listed ten points, but the important thing is to replace paralysis with action. We are deep in the recession and the City really needs to put some effort to keeping businesses and treating businesses that exist the same way they would treat business they want to entice to come to town," he explained.
Fenwick is competing for one of three spots on the council in this November's election. He previously ran for the council in 2009, where he finished third with 20 percent of the vote.
