UPDATE: Driver Charged in Fifth Street Wreck

Charlottesville Police say one driver has been charged in connection to a Saturday crash that sent two people to the hospital.

Police say the driver of a car that pulled in front of an SUV traveling on Fifth Street has been charged with reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. Witnesses said the SUV flipped and crashed into a ditch, trying to avoid the car.

Two people in the SUV were taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center. Police say they were treated and released.

Two people were sent to the hospital Saturday afternoon after a wreck on Fifth Street in Charlottesville.

Witnesses say a car pulled out in front of an SUV driving north on Fifth Street near Tonsler Park. The SUV swerved and crashed into a ditch.

Firefighters got the driver and passenger out and took them to the University of Virginia Medical Center.

The car was never hit.

The wreck closed the road as crews cleared the scene. Charlottesville Police haven't said anything about possible charges in the wreck.
