Fire Near Stony Point Elementary

March 14, 2014

School lasted a little longer on Friday for students at Stony Point Elementary, after a fire broke out at a nearby property.

A shed caught fire shortly before 2 p.m. today, forcing firefighters to block Stony Point Road.

Students were moved to the Stony Point Fire Department so they could board buses or be picked up.

Traffic conditions got worse when a tractor trailer tried to turn around and ended up hitting a power pole. The accident caused firefighters to shut down all of Stony Point Rd. for a time.

No injuries were reported.

The Fire Marshal’s office estimates the damages around $15,000. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, due to ongoing investigation.
